Gone Girl

On the day of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick’s wife Amy disappears. There are signs of struggle in the house and Nick quickly becomes the prime suspect. It doesn’t help that Nick hasn’t been completely honest with the police and, as Amy’s case drags out for weeks, more and more vilifying evidence appears against him. Nick, however, maintains his innocence. Told from alternating points of view between Nick and Amy, Gillian Flynn creates an untrustworthy world that changes chapter-to-chapter. Calling Gone Girl a psychological thriller is an understatement. As revelation after revelation unfolds, it becomes clear that the truth does not exist in the middle of Nick and Amy’s points of view; in fact, the truth is far more dark, more twisted, and more creepy than you can imagine. Gone Girl is masterfully plotted from start to finish and the suspense doesn’t waver for one page. It’s one of those books you will feel the need to discuss immediately after finishing because the ending doesn’t just come; it punches you in the gut

This book is amazing. It has it’s own unexpected twists and turns. It keeps the readers captivated throughout it’s end. Here’s what other people say about this book..

Willow says…

Gillian Flynn is an extremely good writer. About three-fourths through I had decided that Gone Girl was a classic, a true book that reflects the time period and the underlining shallowness that seems to saturate our culture (although the ending changed my mind a bit.) Gone Girl is a scathing commentary on marriage, misogamy, media, Midwesterners, police investigations, and New York princesses. Flynn has a smart, cynical, scintillating wit that made me laugh our loud and reflect on society.

In fact, while I was reading this, I thought, they’ll never be able to capture this book in a movie. Gone Girl does not read like screenplay. Flynn loves words too much and playing with metaphors. The story alone is not what makes this book so entertaining. It’s the writing and the observations. How will the screenwriter ever capture this on film?

Amy and Nick are both truly awful people. I was horrified at their coldness. They’re both so self-centered and self-absorbed, but of course, they don’t completely know that. Lol
I would never want to meet either of them in real life. Yet I rather liked being thrown into their point of view. The way they screw with each other is brilliant and amusing. This book starts out as a mystery, and then turns into a suspenseful game of chess. The ending then takes an even different turn.

I’ve read that many readers were unhappy with the ending. I think maybe they were expecting a little bit more of a bite, maybe a little blood. After all, this book dredges up so many sinister thoughts. It reminded me a little bit of American Psycho with its dark satire.

Christina says….

“AMAZING” is the perfect word to describe this book.

This book makes my short list of favorites. The book starts off with a light and witty tone that leads you to believe you are in for a humorous version of some Lifetime drama….Shallow, but very enjoyable. Then suddenly you are in shock and caught so completely off guard that you can’t do anything but turn the next page as fast as you can. The tone of the story changes and everything you read before turns into something so completely insane you just don’t know what to believe anymore! Things continue to get darker and darker and the revelations more mind blowing. I finished this book and could only sit and shake my head with wide eyes and an unbelieving smirk on my face. Shock. This book is crazy, insane, and unbelievable…. AMAZING.

There you have it.Give this book a try and I am sure that you will not be dissapointed….
